Changing Futures: The role of Changing Futures caseworkers
A deep dive
We’re excited to share this report from our deep dive into the role of Changing Futures caseworkers from the evaluation of the Changing Futures programme, delivered in partnership with CFE Research, Revolving Doors Agency and the University of Sheffield.
Changing Futures is a £91.8 million initiative between the UK Government and The National Lottery Community Fund. It seeks to test innovative approaches to improving outcomes for people experiencing multiple disadvantage (defined as experience of a combination of some or all of homelessness, mental health challenges, contact with the criminal justice system, substance misuse and domestic abuse). The programme is running in 15 areas across England from 2021 to 2026.
This report investigates the role and experiences of Changing Futures caseworkers, who provide person-centred, trauma-informed support to small caseloads of between 7-12 people. Evidence from the evaluation highlights the benefits of the caseworker role, and this report explores how it may be grown and sustained beyond the programme to continue to support people experiencing multiple disadvantage. It also explores the contribution of the caseworker role to systems change, through fostering new working practices and relationships and advocating for policy developments.
This is part of a series of reports from the evaluation available on the government website here.
