The replication, scale and spread of innovative programmes in the NHS has historically been viewed as a challenge. Since 2017, together with the Innovation Unit, we have been pleased to have worked with the Health Foundation and four health innovators – PROMPT, PRIMIS (PINCER), Pathway and IRISi – on a programme which explored a social franchising approach to support replication, scale and spread of well evidenced models of care in the NHS.

Our evaluation provided a series of evidence-led recommendations for national funding organisations, innovators thinking of using social franchising or similar approaches to replication, scale and spread, the wider system and potential adopters of innovative models and for further research and evidence generation in this area.
