Evaluation of the Bambu programme
A programme providing one-to-one trauma-informed, early intervention support to children and young people aged 11-24 impacted by domestic abuse.
We are pleased to share our evaluation of the Bambu programme, a programme for young people which ran from August 2022 to March 2025. It was funded by the London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and delivered by Rise Mutual CIC and Waythrough.
Operating across eight London boroughs, Bambu provided one-to-one trauma-informed, early intervention support to children and young people aged 11-24 impacted by domestic abuse.
We used a mixed-methods approach to evaluate Bambu’s programme's impact on young people and families, professionals, and the broader support system.
We found that Bambu effectively provided tailored support, leading to improved outcomes for young people and enhancing collaborative practices among professionals.
For example, the following aspects of Bambu were particularly helpful, leading to young people’s better wellbeing, family relationships, and school life:
- Personalised support: Sessions were tailored and focused on individual needs, reflecting that every young person’s situation is different.
- Safe spaces: Bambu gave young people a space to talk openly about their feelings.
- Trusted relationships: Young people worked with the same key worker for up to 20 weeks, which helped build trust and familiarity.
Our evaluation offers evidence-based recommendations to strengthen delivery and sustainability of support for young people impacted by domestic abuse.
It underscores the importance of this support and highlights areas for continued development of provision in this often under-served area.
