Improving employment outcomes for autistic people

What can employers do?

Evidence is clear that autistic people bring a wide range of strengths and talents to the workplace. Embracing neurodiversity helps to create stronger, higher skilled organisations, and these strengths should be recognised and celebrated. However, despite having the necessary skills, abilities and desire to work, autistic people experience very low employment rates. Research suggests that only 3 in 10 autistic people are in any form of employment (Buckland Review of Autism Employment 2024).

So what can employers do to improve employment outcomes for autistic people?

This short blog post explores the barriers to employment that autistic people face, and the different approaches that employers can take to improve employment outcomes for autistic people. It has been produced as part of our activities marking Neurodiversity Celebration Month, and is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that Cordis Bright is an accessible place to work. We would welcome any feedback or thoughts on this blog post. Please contact Emma Andersen at emmaandersen@cordisbright.co.uk or Tom Noon at tomnoon@cordisbright.co.uk to continue the conversation.
