Dr Jordan Tomkins

Jordan Tomkins has a PhD in Psychology from the University of Waikato, New Zealand. Her mixed-methods thesis focused on stalking in cases of domestic abuse. She also has a Masters of Social Science in Psychology (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (First Class Honours), with research published in journals like Psychology, Crime & Law and the Journal of Family Violence. Alongside her postgraduate study, Jordan worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant for the New Zealand Institute of Security and Crime Science (University of Waikato) and the forensic psychology team at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Prior to joining Cordis Bright, Jordan worked in New Zealand as a Senior Practitioner at Aviva (formerly Christchurch Women’s Refuge), which involved delivering individual and group interventions to adults and children who had experienced domestic abuse. She also previously worked as a Probation Officer at the Department of Corrections and an Analyst at New Zealand Police. Jordan has volunteer experience as a (shadow) Board Member at Aviva and a Communications Specialist for the New Zealand National Council of Women.

Jordan’s research experience includes:

  • Undertaking comprehensive literature reviews
  • Collating large datasets and running statistical analyses
  • Conducting semi-structured interviews
  • Thematically coding and analysing qualitative data
  • Writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings to a range of stakeholders
