Researcher

  • maisiematthews@cordisbright.co.uk

Maisie has a first-class BA and MPhil in Psychology from the University of Cambridge and will soon receive her PhD in Social Science from UCL. Her previous work has focused on diverse family forms, aiming to address health and wellbeing inequalities among marginalised populations.

Before joining Cordis Bright, Maisie designed and conducted a mixed-method and multi-informant research project into identity, wellbeing, and family life in bisexual father families for her PhD at UCL. This research used survey and interview methods to identify risk and resilience factors contributing to parent and child wellbeing in these families and consider how these shaped family processes and relationships.

She has also worked on a project at UCL aiming to develop inclusive training tools for doctoral supervisors through lived-experience data, leading co-creation interviews with staff and students.

Maisie has also taught Social Sciences and Psychology at UCL and Cambridge, leading lectures and seminars and providing academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Maisie is a member of the Reproduction and the Family (ReproFam) research network, which brings together researchers and industry specialists working on family diversity and child development.

She has published her work in the Journal of Family Psychology and presented at a range of international conferences.

Maisie's research skills include:

  • Undertaking in-depth literature reviews
  • Collecting and statistically analysing quantitative survey data
  • Conducting semi-structured interviews on sensitive topics
  • Thematically coding and analysing qualitative datasets
  • Synthesising mixed-method findings through triangulation
  • Producing written manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and presenting research to diverse audiences
