How we embed inclusive practice in our work

Why inclusion matters to us

Why inclusion matters to us

At Cordis Bright, we see inclusive research as both a way to improve the quality and relevance of our work, and a commitment to equity and meaningful impact.

Many of the issues we explore affect people and communities who are marginalised or underserved. It is vital that our research reflects diverse experiences and perspectives so that we can produce insights that are rigorous and relevant.

Inclusion strengthens the depth and integrity of our findings. It helps us to avoid blind spots and challenge our assumptions, and supports the development recommendations for fair and effective services, policies and practices.

What we mean by inclusive practice

At Cordis Bright, inclusive practice means designing and delivering research that is accessible, respectful and empowering for everyone involved. We pay close attention to who is included, how we engage with them, and how their contributions are recognised and used.

What inclusive research means diagram

Inclusive research means:

  • Intentionally involving people who are often excluded from traditional research, such as people with learning disabilities, care-experienced young people, racially minoritised communities, or people with complex needs.
  • Developing accessible methods and materials to make taking part easier: using plain language, creative methods, and offering different ways to take part.
  • Sharing power through co-production and participatory methods, and valuing lived experience.
  • Reducing barriers to involvement, so that people are not excluded because of language, their financial situation, disabilities, where they live, whether they can use the internet, or other factors.
  • Prioritising ethical, trauma-informed practice, so participants feel supported, safe, and respected.

We see inclusive practice as an ongoing process of reflection, collaboration and learning – not a fixed checklist. It is central to our ambition to support the development of services and systems that are evidence-informed and inclusive by design.

Inclusive research policies and toolkits

Our inclusive practice is underpinned by the following policies and toolkits, which we keep under review and development:
